Her son held the leash for their little dog, Saber, while her husband hurriedly tried to pack everything they owned. It was just past 8:30 a.m. Monday, and garbage trucks and clean-up crews carrying rakes were just a few hundred feet away, steadily obliterating the downtown tent city they called home. Related: Louisville shoves homeless into the shadows but offers no real solution City officials were following through on a promise they made three weeks ago, clearing out the Jefferson and Jackson street camp under an Interstate 65 overpass because they said it had become too dangerous. As the crews used skid loaders to clear the sidewalks, outreach workers paced the block, checking on people one by one to help them leave. Like Crisp’s family, many had no idea where they would go next.
