Investigators are treating the cause of the devastating blaze at Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral as an accident, possibly as a result of restoration work. They will be interviewing workers from five companies that had been hired to work on renovations to the cathedral’s roof, which was where the flames started, amid a £130million project. Shocking interior photos have revealed the scale of the devastation – showing blackened walls, holes in the roof and piles of charred rubble – as fashion billionaires line up to pay for rebuilding efforts that will go on for many years. More than 400 firefighters battled through the night to save the main structure, iconic towers, main works of art and organ, finally extinguishing the inferno about 15 hours after it was first noticed. Some weaknesses have been discovered in the structure, the French Government announced amid an outpouring of support, with the Queen saying she was “deeply saddened” and world leaders pledging to help France rebuild the cathedral.
