Australians have complained about poor discounts, small crowds and bad products during the Boxing Day sales. Bargain-hunters queued before dawn in Sydney and Melbourne in anticipation of the major department stores throwing open their doors at 5am. But the crowd at notoriously busy Pitt Street Mall appeared notably smaller, with Sydneysiders choosing to spend their public holiday away from the shops.  Those who braved the sales were disappointed by the once prominent shopping date, with many claiming the discounts were better during the Black Friday sales and in the lead-up to Christmas.
