Dementia patient, 81, evicted from nursing home during lockdown after row over visits

A dementia patient was evicted from a nursing home amid the coronavirus pandemic following a row over socially distanced visits. Valerie Boxford, 81, was served her notice from Forest Manor, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts, after her daughter Emma Knaggs repeatedly requested weekly window visits, despite the lockdown. Emma also posted comments on Facebook deemed derogatory and submitted complaints to CQC and Nottinghamshire County Council. The concerned daughter, a care worker herself, insists she noticed from video calls and photos sent by home staff that her mum appeared to be rapidly ‘deteriorating’ – including allegedly having become non-verbal and unable to feed herself. In five emails sent over four months from April – and seen by the Mirror Online – Ms Knaggs requested five-minute visits outside her mum’s window to help give her a “boost”. These requests were denied with the home adamant it would not breach guidelines from the government and local authority, while Ms Knaggs was also accused of making “derogatory” remarks about the home on Facebook in a letter from the home.
